Peter joined Old Mutual in 1978, was appointed deputy managing director of Old Mutual Life Assurance Company (South Africa) in 2000 and retired in November 2008.

He is currently a non–executive director of a number of Old Mutual group subsidiary companies.  Peter is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries and the Actuarial Society of South Africa.
