Lea was appointed to the Oceana Board of Directors on 8 February 2007. She graduated from Rhodes University in 1983 with a BA degree in African Political Science and Economic History and in 1986 with an LLB degree. She served articles in Johannesburg, was admitted as an attorney in 1989 and practised in Johannesburg and on the West Rand as a professional assistant before being appointed partner in 1991. In 1993 Lea joined Transnet as a legal advisor in the Group Legal Services department. Subsequently she was appointed legal advisor in Transnet’s Transport Strategy department.
Lea joined Blue Continent Products as commercial manager in June 1998, and consulted to BCP during 1999 before rejoining on a full–basis as commercial manager in January 2000. In October 2000 she was appointed commercial director at BCP before moving to the Oceana Group Cape Town office in April 2001 as commercial manager. In April 2004 Lea was appointed group transformation manager and a member of the Oceana Executive. She was responsible for driving the internal transformation process, managing the long term commercial fishing rights process and the establishment of the Khula Trust. In April 2008 Lea was appointed managing director of Blue Continent Products’ Hake Division and, with the exception of the transformation portfolio, also continued to retain her other current responsibilities. In April 2010 Lea was appointed director of Group Strategic Services which includes responsibility across the Group for the following areas: Sustainability, Transformation, Communication, Corporate Social Investment, Procurement and Property. The department will be responsible for the Group’s strategy development and implementation in these areas. The current reporting structure for the commercial function remains and coordination of the overall commercial function is unchanged. |
